Hydraulic Completion Units will serve Appalachian and Permian basins
[/vc_column_text][us_separator type=”invisible” size=”small”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]ZELIENOPLE, Pa. – Already an industry leader in long laterals and super laterals, Deep Well Services (DWS) will utilize “Generation 6” technology to serve customers in the Appalachian and Permian basins.
In the past two years, DWS had played a primary role in a string of four North American record-breaking drills. Now, the Zelienople-based oil and gas company has positioned itself to build on that momentum through the development of cutting-edge Hydraulic Completion Units (HCU).
“Our new investors have enabled us to continue to grow and service our Appalachian Basin customers as well as expand into the Permian Basin,” said DWS Vice President of Business Development John Sabo. “Our leadership has developed a detailed strategy that will be executed in both regions, with our primary investment in the Appalachian Basin. DWS is excited about the growth potential and will continue to deliver top tier talent and customer service to our customer base.”
Houston-based private equity company White Deer Energy acquired Deep Well Services in April.
DWS had played a significant role in another 28,800-foot measured depth and 20,800-foot perforated lateral in Ohio. A total of 126 plugs were drilled in 117 hours and included all surface-to-surface circulating, wash down and drilling times.
In the past 18 months, DWS has completed 19 wells with laterals of 15,000 feet or greater, and an even more impressive statistic is that five of those wells supported laterals that were over 20,000 feet in length and were drilled out using only one bit.
“We’re building three units right now to service both Appalachian and Permian basins, and they’re all going to be Generation 6 units,” Sabo said. “We’re looking by the end of the year at two more units completed, with four more to follow next year.”
Deep Well Services Fleet Manager Dustin Loiselle said the 300K Hydraulic Completion Units include features such as a quick-pick design and slip interlock system. The 15K PSI-rated units have 10,000 foot-pound rotaries. Consolidated Rig Works of Fort Worth, Texas, manufactures the units.
In addition to the high-tech equipment, Loiselle said competency and training procedures play a vital role in bringing the Hydraulic Completion Units on line.
“Teamwork with our manufacturer is an essential part of the process,” Loiselle said. “Understanding the build schedules and the various requirements these involve also are important factors. Pre-planning goes into all build and manpower aspects, as well as the training that emphasizes safety and quality control.”
DWS has established itself as a leader in Health Safety Quality and Environmental (HSQE) standards through utilization of state-of-the-art equipment and technology as well as rigorous training and safety measures.
For a second consecutive year, Deep Well Services (DWS) earned the prestigious Northeast Oil & Gas Award for Excellence in Health and Safety in 2018. Last year, DWS achieved the American Petroleum Institute (API) Specification Q2 certification for drilling service providers and the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems (QMS) certification.
“We know exactly how many people are required for each rig and when to bring them on,” Loiselle said. “We utilize ‘shadowing,’ and we bring these people in early and put them on other units so they understand our equipment.
“We have competency training. We utilize our snubbing simulator,” he continued. “We have computer software that mimics our operations. We train and test the teams on all of this. We don’t want to have any growing pains. We’re ahead of it. We have a budget in place to train our people properly.”
