Our Commitment to Safety
“We at Deep Well Services value safety above all else.”
Safety First – One Team, One Family is the first of our operating values, which drive our daily decision-making. We believe safety is about enabling and expecting each individual to take personal responsibility and actively care about themselves, their co-workers, and the public – just as they do their families. It is through this understanding, aligned commitment and the power of teamwork that everyone goes home safe, every day, everywhere, every time. Learning is a part of our “DNA”. We are relentless about continuous improvement, eliminating waste and constantly raising the bar to achieve superior performance.
DWS views safety as a key component in the company’s operational success; safe proactive procedures establish the foundation for high quality results. At DWS, we set ourselves apart by constantly raising the bar to measure superior effectiveness to ensure that our people have the tools they need to work safely each and every day. As a result of this effort, our trusted clients receive quality, efficient and incident-free service.
Our designation as API Q2/ISO9001 Certified exemplifies our commitment to continuous improvement while mitigating risk and increasing efficiency. All jobs are planned with limited downtime as the goal. Redundancy and contingencies are critical to all job planning completed by DWS.
At Deep Well Services (DWS) we know our people are our greatest asset and we are committed to protecting the health and safety of our employees, our clients, and the communities where we conduct business. Extensive training is conducted for all employees including, but not limited to: SafeLand, SMITH Defensive Driving, 1st Aid/CPR, Well Control, Rigging/Overhead Lifts, etc. Everyone at DWS is entered into the “DWS Competency Program” which evaluates not only training requirements, but job skill and proficiency.
Our Commitment to Training
Competency Based Training Program
DWS has invested in a competency based training program that enables each individual to be promoted within the company based on a competency check list. It requires that the employee prove they are competent and proficient in the role in which they have been assigned. The employee must go through multiple checks and mentorships to ensure that they are fully capable of taking on the associated risks and responsibilities of the new position before being granted the full promotion. A competency level is considered complete when the employee has achieved the following criteria:
- Check list completed and recommendations of at least two supervisors are provided
- Completed a minimum requirement of 90 working days at their current position
- Successfully complete a written test of knowledge and calculations for the next level position
- Successfully complete a level based snubbing scenario flawlessly preformed on our VR snubbing simulator
- Obtain final approval of the operations leadership team
A unique thing about our competency check list is that it is not 100% operationally based. These checklists have been designed to ensure that the employee is growing in all aspects of the business and includes sections for human resources, HSQE, dispatch, shop processes, and section on company culture to gauge the employee’s understanding of the company’s core values and mission statement. This process is designed to ensure all field staff members are getting the same standardized and consistent training for each level in their career path. The competency program allow DWS employees to take their own initiative in creating and driving their career paths via the competency check list. Giving our employees the power to drive their own success allow them to have control of their future without the need to wait for yearly performance reviews or years of service increases.
At DWS we feel that we are giving our field staff not just jobs, but careers that they can be proud of.
Snubbing Simulator for Training and Job Planning
DWS has invested in a state-of-the-art Snubbing Simulator, customized for DWS equipment. The latest update to our Simulator utilizes industry-leading Oculus VR (virtual reality) headsets to provide an unparalleled “in-basket” snubbing experience.
The snubbing simulator is directly tied to the competency program, with requirements that employees become proficient in a wide variety of classroom-controlled snubbing situations before moving to the next competency level. The Simulator mirrors the control panel present on all DWS snubbing units to give the most realistic feel possible.
With our Snubbing Simulator, we are able to create any snubbing scenario, well pressure, tubing size / grade, Bottom Hole Assembly (BHA), and primary Blowout Preventer (BOP) stack configuration. This enables us to continuously train our incumbent staff, better assess new hires, and set up optimally for upcoming jobs. Our having the capability to create BHAs and mimic the parameters of any well on which one of our snubbing units will be rigged up on allows our operators to practice ahead of time in a safe environment before getting to the job site. This capability is especially beneficial for off-scope BHAs, fishing situations and high-pressure ram-to-ram jobs.
With so many different snubbing scenarios integrated into the Snubbing Simulator’s programming, the Simulator allows us to teach a wide variety of individuals, from the most experienced snubbing supervisors to staff who have never even seen a snubbing unit before.
Another great benefit of the Simulator is its interactive instructor panel. The panel not only allows us to create for our students a variety of compromised well control (blowout) situations but also provides a means of training for those types of situations in a controlled environment. DWS’ highly customized Snubbing Simulator delivers the most realistic training experience, resulting in knowledgeable and confident operators able to complete a snubbing operation safely and efficiently.
